BBC NEWS | Election 2005 | Results | Stroud

That was close. I think Stroud was Labour's 324th seat, the one that ensured their overall majority. Great to see over 5% of the vote for Martin Whiteside.

George Galloway has just made a mad speech after winning Bethnal Green and Bow. Radio 5 haven't mentioned Stroud or even Bristol West which was a massive win for the LDs. Huge swing to Lib Dems in Brent East too. Shame for them that they didn't dislodge Oliver Letwin or David Davis etc.

Those who switched away from Labour as a protest, but still sort of hoped David Drew would stay on as MP must be really relieved. If another 351 people had done then Neil Carmichael would have won.

Now off to find out what happened in the county council elections...

Apparently I should vote Lib Dem... but actually I'm voting Green

Who Should You Vote For?

Who should I vote for? v2

Your expected outcome:

Liberal Democrat

Your actual outcome:

Labour 3
Conservative -16
Liberal Democrat 65
UKIP -17
Green 49

You should vote: Liberal Democrat

The LibDems take a strong stand against tax cuts and a strong one in favour of public services: they would make long-term residential care for the elderly free across the UK, and scrap university tuition fees. They are in favour of a ban on smoking in public places, but would relax laws on cannabis. They propose to change vehicle taxation to be based on usage rather than ownership.

I'm not really sure what you would have to put in to get a "Vote Green" recommendation. Maybe I didn't use enough "strongly"s ;-)
