The original Arthur Dent?
Read a fascinating snippet in the Times today announcing a reader's theory that Douglas Adams' Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy was inspired by "an obscure 17th-century religious tract entitled The Plaine Man's Pathway to Heaven." People who hear the theory "are - probably rightly - rather sceptical," writes the correspondent. "Or they are until I reveal the name of the author... Arthur Dent."
Lovely, just lovely. Doesn't it send shivers down your spine! However, a search for more information about this theory leads to a denial by Adams that he had ever come across the tract. I suppose you have to go with that, then, unbelievable as it
is.
Douglas Adams RIP
